LI -American Revolutionary War: The Duke's Redemption by Carla Capshaw

The Duke's Redemption (Love Inspired Historical)

The Duke's Redemption by Carla Capshaw

Drake Amberly, Duke of Hawk Haven, came to the colonies for revenge-to unmask the spy who killed his brother. Yet he find himself distracted from his mission by the beautiful and spirited Elise Cooper. But as Drake's pursuit of "The Fox" brings him dangerously close to Elise's secrets, she must prove to him that love and forgiveness are all they need.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I dare say that I could quite feel my heart beating out of my chest at times through out this adventure. The revolutionary war era is my favorite historical time period and I hardly find a novel entwined in that time that I enjoy, but that was not the case with this novel. I very much so enjoyed the experience of reading into the lives of Duke Drake Amberly and his true love, the espionage Fox for the Patriots Elise Cooper.

The things that one would do to save the life of her sister meet with the things that one would do to receive vengeance for the life of his brother and they are stalled with the question of is their love strong enough to endure the past? Knowing from the beginning that they would fall in love, it was difficult not being able to turn the pages fast enough. Such a complicated situation, it is hard to even suggest what the outcome could be.

Author Carla Capshaw kept my attention wrapped around each page and continuing chapter and I am so glad to have entered her into my favorite author list. I enjoyed this novel and I will definitely be on the look out for more.

Regency: The Courteous Cad by Catherine Palmer

The Courteous Cad (Miss Pickworth) The Courteous Cad by Catherine Palmer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Coming straight in with this being my first experience of author Catherine Palmer was refreshing and entertaining and I plan to look her up in the future for more reading adventures. I discovered that this novel is the third in a series but also connected to a Christmas novella and a second series as well bringing characters together and I love things like that. Even though I not read the other books in the series I was more than able to appreciate the characters and believe that I would like to read more about them in the other books related.

Being regency with all the etiquette and silly banter this story is fully of wit. Romantic and comical each page will present the reader with smiles. There is also a good touching on issues and causes of things such as child labor, mill revolts, long hours, as well as places for a person to improve. Using womanly whiles for the purpose of stumping men and exiting the acquaintance without a second thought. Learning to grow and find true forgiveness for a variety of past sins are woven through out and the message is not overly preachy yet important to experience.

The Courteous Cad is indeed a courteous man in the end. Both titles he earns and though the story is reflected on him, you can see learning and redeeming qualities in more character than one. I recommend this novel and must find some more.

LFY: Bridal Veil Oregon by Miralee Ferrell

One thing that I love about being a blogging reviewer is finding new books and another thing is finding new blogs to watch for great reviews. Well, I believe it was yesterday I found both in one place. Over at Ponderings by Andrea I found a great blogging reviewer new to me and a review on a book that I have yet to read, but you better believe it is on my list of TBR.

Love Finds You in Bridal Veil, Oregon

Summerside Press, based in Minneapolis MN, has a series of novels called ‘Love Finds You.’  The books in the series are named after American towns with unusual but intriguing names.  This book, ‘Love Finds You in Bridal Veil, Oregon’ is the third book in the series based in Oregon, a state I have not set foot in –yet!

If memory serves, this is the first Christian historical romance novel I have ever read.  I had heard about this book, and was intrigued.  The story centers on Margaret Garvey, a school teacher in the lovely town of Bridal Veil, Oregon at the turn of the twentieth century.  Bridal Veil, at that time in history, was a logging community; the town was built by Bridal Veil Lumbering Company, a company which existed in real life.  Most of the commerce in Bridal Veil was based on that trade.

Margaret has suffered many losses in her short twenty years.  Four years earlier, she was being courted by Nathaniel Cooper.  Sadly for her, her father, Jacob, was not happy about the relationship.  He took steps to cause them to separate, a situation which broke Margaret’s heart.  Nathaniel moved out of town to start a new job without speaking to her, and Margaret was confused and in despair.

Four years later, ... (Click here to read the full review.)

This book sounds great for one! And for two, you can never go wrong with a heroine's name like that. *wink* Make sure to go read the rest of the review over @ Ponderings by Andrea and watch her blog in the future for more great reviews.
